About the Artist

Art Making As a Sacred Calling

From the first time anyone asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I chose "artist and writer." After a long career as a copywriter and graphic designer, I am at last painting full time.

I am fascinated by the profound beauty of small things: leaves, rocks, shadows, puddles. After moving from the Midwest to the mountains above Jemez Springs, New Mexico, the landscape of my surroundings finally matched the landscapes of my dreams. A later move to the open prairie south of Santa Fe quite literally expanded my horizons and informed my palette.

Today I am also exploring more abstract expressions as well as Sacred Geometry, which describes the metastructure of growth, change, stability and strength in nature. Having worked primarily in watercolor and pastels earlier in my career, my new work now includes acrylic media.

Working

Balanced on the boundaries of image and illusion

Like a junkie I chase rainbows through the caverns of my mind.

The perfect virgin surface destroyed in exploration,

Each mark a search for meaning

As defiled becomes defined.

Balanced on the boundaries,

Seeking content in the shadows,

Like a junkie I chase rainbows,

And reveal my own reflection

In the images I find.
